Cowboy Boots Hit the Trail for the WRCA Rodeo
Tuesday, October 14th, 2008The Working Ranch Cowboys Association Rodeo Brings New Boots to Amarillo
Cowboy boots from all around the world will be bringing their owners to Amarillo, TX, for the 13th Working Ranch Cowboys Association (WRCA) World Championship Ranch Rodeo this November 13-16th. Sited at the Amarillo Civic Center, this showcase for cowboy culture, roping and riding skills, fine Western wear and cowboy boots runs Wednesday to Sunday.
A serious national rodeo with international participation, the Working Ranch Cowboys Association Rodeo is a by-invitation-only competition featuring the best ranch rodeo teams in the country. Each team consists of five or six cowboys. To boot, teams must have won a Working Ranch Cowboys Association event this year to compete. It’s not just for cowboys who like to sit around talking about boot fit, either; other family-friendly attractions include free trade shows, an art show, a bronc riding competition, four days of junior rodeo competition and ranching seminars. The event’s profits fund the Working Ranch Cowboys Association’s scholarship program and its crisis assistance program for cowboys who’ve temporarily hung up their boots due to work injuries.
Amarillo is a favorite site for the typical WRCA cowboy. Boots, cowboy hats, Western wear, livestock, handcrafted belt buckles, Western jewelry, warm weather… and the Amarillo Civic Center is one massive all-weather venue with no crossovers. “The nice thing is there is not a bad seat in the house,” says Gary Morton, one of the Working Ranch Cowboys Association directors. Amarillo is also the home of the Working Ranch Cowboys Association.
If you’re looking for a warm place to polish your cowboy boots in early November, consider ambling over to the WRCA website for your shot at some Texas rodeo goodness at the Working Ranch Cowboys Association Rodeo. It’s not too far from your favorite cowboy boot store in Austin, and it promises to be an unforgettable experience. Says past exhibitor Zeb Oliver of Oliver’s Saddles, “It’s the top cowboy show in the nation, bar none.”
