Thursday, March 4th, 2010

If you’re in Austin, don’t miss out on Rodeo Austin’s Cowboy Breakfast tomorrow at Auditorium Shores. It starts at 6am, and it’s FREE! The Cowboy Breakfast is the official kick-off to the Star of Texas Fair and Rodeo. Just don’t forget to wear your cowboy boots: Tomorrow is also Dress Western Day in Austin.

The fun starts bright ‘n’ early at 6am, and attendees can park free at the Palmer Events Center Garage. What’s more is that in addition to free food, there will be plenty of free entertainment, including live music from Andrea Marie and the Magnolia Band, dance lessons from the American Academy of Music and Dance, and trick roper Kevin Fitzpatrick.

The Cowboy Breakfast sure does sound like a fun way to end the week and celebrate the kick off of the Star of Texas Fair and Rodeo. Here’s what’s on the menu:

  • Biscuits and gravy
  • Brisket wraps
  • Sausage wraps
  • Pancakes
  • Donuts
  • Milk, juice, and iced tea

Everyone is welcome to take pictures with “Cowboy” the longhorn, watch chainsaw artist David Cox, and enjoy Camp Cookie and the Texas Trio. Kids and parents will love T-bone the Longhorn’s puppet show, too.

This is a fun family-friendly event, and we’re so proud it’s happening right here in Austin, Texas. See you there!

Remember, the Star of Texas Fair and Rodeo happens March 12-27, 2010. The fairgrounds are located at the Travis County Expo Center at 9100 Decker Lake Road in Austin.

The Rodeo Austin Gala 2010 is Just One Month Away

Tuesday, January 5th, 2010

One of the coolest annual events in Austin is Rodeo Austin, and this year’s Rodeo Austin Gala — complete with a four-course dinner, concert and silent auction — is just one month away. Happening on February 6, 2010, the Rodeo Austin Gala will be held at the Palmer Events Center. The event helps raise money for the Star of Texas Fair and Rodeo and benefits Rodeo Austin’s mission, which is “Promoting Youth Education — Preserving Western Heritage.”

Live Music at the 2010 Rodeo Austin Gala

We were so excited to hear about the live entertainment at the 2010 Rodeo Austin Gala. Scheduled to perform are Dwight Yoakum and Walt Wilkins & The Mystequeros. These impressive performers are sure to make it a memorable evening for all in attendance.

Star of Texas Fair and Rodeo

The Gala is sort of a preview for the Star of Texas Fair and Rodeo, which is scheduled for March 12-27, 2010. This family-friendly event offers much to do for people of all ages. There’s a carnival, livestock show, ProRodeo and live music. The full line-up for the Main Stage won’t be released until January 27, so we still have a few more weeks until we find out who else will perform. Last year’s Main Stage entertainers included: Randy Travis, Kellie Pickler, Jesse McCartney, Kevin Fowler, Jack Ingram and Randy Rogers Band. These shows are put on in the Rodeo Arena.

Don’t Forget Your Cowboy Boots

If you’re going to the Star of Texas Fair and Rodeo, wear your cowboy boots! Allens Boots is proud to sell a wide variety of cowboy boots for men, women and even children so that you can outfit your whole family. Not only are cowboy boots durable and comfortable, they’re also the perfect way of saying “I’m a proud Texan” — and that’s a great statement to make at the Star of Texas Fair and Rodeo.

Rodeo Austin Just One Month Away

Tuesday, February 17th, 2009

We’re just one month away from Rodeo Austin, which is happening March 13-28, 2009. And boy, we just can’t wait to go and enjoy this great event. We’re counting down the days til Rodeo Austin, y’all.

A non-profit organization that contributes over $1 million each year to Texas youth, The State of Texas Fair and Rodeo has a mission of “Promoting Youth Education – Preserving Western Heritage.” Rodeo Austin is actually the sixth largest indoor, regular season ProRodeo in the world.

There’s a diverse musical line-up for this year’s Rodeo Austin:

  • March 14: Randy Rogers Band
  • March 15: Jimmy Wayne
  • March 16: Josh Turner
  • March 17: Jesse McCartney
  • March 18: Clay Walker
  • March 19: Akon
  • March 20: Kellie Pickler
  • March 21: Eli Young Band
  • March 22: Randy Travis
  • March 23: Carlos Mencia
  • March 24: Sara Bareilles
  • March 25: Creedence Clearwater Revival
  • March 26: Jack Ingram
  • March 27: Craig Morgan
  • March 28: Kevin Fowler

Great line-up, that’s for sure. In addition to great music, Rodeo Austin also offers a livestock show, chuck wagon cook-off, rodeo and plenty of stuff the whole family can enjoy together. There’s even a carnival with food, games and rides.

If you’re planning on going to Rodeo Austin, don’t forget to wear some cowboy boots and western wear. You can’t go wrong with a cowboy hat, either. We’ll see you there!

Rodeo Austin Joins Forces with Caritas of Austin

Rodeo Austin will host its first Caritas Theme Day tomorrow, Tuesday, March 4th. Primary day is stiff competition, but who can refuse $1 off Rodeo Austin admission? That’s right, if you bring three canned or non-perishable food items to the fairgrounds tomorrow, you get $1 off the price of your Rodeo Austin ticket. The canned goods will go towards Caritas’ lifesaving store of supplies that help them carry out their mission of fighting poverty and homelessness. If Rodeo Austin is anything, it’s the rodeo with a heart. It’s a great cause, so get out your cowboy boots to support your community.

Rodeo Austin and the Houston Livestock Show

Rodeo Austin is the counterpart to the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo; the two events cover the spectrum of truly Texas rodeos. Whereas the Houston Rodeo covers everything that can possibly be done or seen at a rodeo show, Rodeo Austin is often considered the softer side. Rodeo Austin is going on now through March 15th at the Walter E. Long Municipal Park.

What to See at Rodeo Austin

The attractions are what make Rodeo Austin unique, like Whiplash the Cowboy Monkey or the Western Shootout Comedy Show and Cowboy Music Review. There’s also a livestock barn, an exotic petting zoo, a lineup of bands performing throughout the day on the outdoor stage, and a famous carnival.

It’s a great event for the whole family, and a great place to show the kids the prime environment for western wear. Look no further for the cutest children’s boots than Allens, located just across town from the Austin Rodeo.

Of course, like all Texas rodeos, you’ll see a fair representation of the best cowboy boots in the world. Don’t forget to bring yours!
